Japan Institute of Architects – JIA

JIA has been operating under the same restrictions as many of the UIA’s other national organisations. The Japanese government’s State of Emergency was extended until 25 May in Tokyo and four other prefectures (Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama and Hokkaido). It is now lifted. The JIA office opened on 26 May 2020.

Because the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare encourages people to avoid the “3Cs” (Closed space, Crowded places, Close contact), JIA notes that:

  • almost all international events are postponed;
  • almost all committee meetings as well as that for the Board of Directors are held virtually;
  • avoid the three types of congestion at construction sites.

JIA is pleased to spotlight some noteworthy examples of Japanese architects cooperating in the combat against COVID-19:

Please also find the latest version of the COVID-19 countermeasures for Japanese construction sites issued by the Ministry of Land Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. (JIA thanks the Indian Institute of Architects for their kind English translation of the document. The Japanese version is here.)
